Instrument Rating (IR)

Course Overview

Instrument Rating (IR) refers to the qualification that a pilot must have in order to fly under IFR (Instrument Flight Rules). The Instrument Rating (IR) can be added to either a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) or a  Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL). Candidates who intend to work for an airline company must have passed the IR skill test on a Multi-Engine (ME) aircraft. 

Prerequisites

1. have completed the necessary IR theoretical training as well as have passed the corresponding exams to the applicable CAA;

2. hold a current and valid medical issued by a member state (hearing standard higher than PPL);

3. have acquired a valid night qualification or rating;

4. have acquired a multi engine class rating prior to training for a multi engine IR;

5. hold an Aviation English Language Proficiency (ELP) certificate level 4 minimum;

6. hold a current and valid PPL or CPL;

7. present flying experience of at least 50 hours of cross country flight time as pilot in command of aeroplanes;

Prerequisites

Course Structure

a) 57 hours for IR/ME training option, including:
1. 42 hours on Simulator ALX Alsim FNPTII
2. 15 hours on ME aircraft

b) 52 hours for IR/SE training option, including:
1. 37 hours on Simulator ALX Alsim FNPTII
2. 15 hours on SE aircraft

c) Holders of CPL course completion certificate get credit of 10 training hours and ultimately IR training package will consist of:
1. 32 hours on Simulator ALX Alsim FNPTII
2. 15 hours on ME aircraft

For the conversion of SE/IR to ME/IR, 5 hours are required in instrument flying on ME aeroplanes, of which 3 may be completed on Simulator ALX Alsim FNPT II.
