EASA ATPL Modular Course

To get your first flying job as a first officer you will need:

  • CPL (Commercial Pilot License)
  • IR (Instrument Rating)
  • ME (Multi Engine Rating)

Skies Aviation Academy’s base for the flight training is at Alexandroupolis, presenting excellent weather conditions throughout the year allowing students to fly as much as possible. Alexandroupolis airport (LGAL/AXD) is a commercial airfield with a main runway of 2582m and a VOR/DME.

Course Overview

The EASA Modular ATPL Course is usually completed within 12-18 months training the future pilot from the first day up to the ATPL frozen in order to obtain Private Pilot Licence (PPL), Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) with Instrument Rating (IR), Multi Engine (ME), Performance-based Navigation (PBN) and ATPL theory credit

Step 1: Private Pilot License course

Step 1: Private Pilot License course

  • Minimum 45 hours training on PA28 aircraft
  • Minimum 100 hours of theoretical training
  • Pass 9 HCAA PPL Theory Exams
  • Pass English aviation language test (ELP)
  • Pass 2 hrs PPL Skill Test.
Step 2: ATPL Theory (13 Subjects)

The 13 ATPL subjects are distributed in 3 stages. KSA (Knowledge, Skills and Attitude) Training is also taught as part of the ATPL Theory. After completion of the ATPL theory, candidates must pass HCAA ATPL exams, except KSA.

Step 3: Hour Building

87 hours as Pilot in Command (PIC) need to be completed for Hour Building before further training will be provided.
Step 4: Night Rating

5 hours night training including:​
  • ​1-hour navigation​
  • ​5 take-off and full-stop landings during the night as PIC (in approximately 1 hour)
  • Minimum of 3 hours dual training.
Step 5: SE/IR and PBN

5 hours night training including:​
  • ​8 hours of PBN Theoretical Training
  • ​37 SIM FNPT II
  • 15 hours dual Single Engine with PA 28
  • Pass 1,5 hrs SE/IR Skill Test
Step 6: Multi engine training (MEPL)

  • 6 hours dual DA42 Multi Engine Training
  • Minimum of 7 hours Multi Engine Theory
Step 7: Commercial pilot license

  • 10 hours dual Single Engine with PA 28 WARRIOR III aircraft.
  • 5 hours dual DA42 Multi Engine Training
Step 8: Instrument Rating / Multi Engine Training

  • 3 hours dual SIM FNPT II
  • 2 hours dual DA42
  • Pass 2,5 hrs CPL/ME/IR Skill Test

Prerequisites

  • Minimum age of 17 years old
  • High School Degree or Equivalent
  • Sufficient Knowledge of English*
  • Ability to pass Aviation Medical Class 1 Exams**

*Aviation English Language Proficiency (ELP) is arranged by Skies Aviation Academy during the student’s training period. 

**Aviation Medical Examination is an one-day process and can be completed at our base with EASA aviation medical doctor.
